For the past 20 years, Elk Haus in Lofer has been our Austrian home from home. A place for friends and family to gather and enjoy holidays together. Over those years, we’ve watched our children grow up and made countless happy memories here. We’re now delighted to share a little of what makes this place so special through two spacious, well-appointed holiday apartments. With the mountains on your doorstep, they offer a welcoming base in every season, whether you come for winter sports, summer adventures or simply time to slow down and enjoy the scenery.

Lofer is the quintessential Austrian village, where traditional houses and picturesque streets sit beneath dramatic mountain peaks, with stunning scenery in every direction. Its quaint shops and restaurants, beautiful outdoor swimming pool and gondola station are all within a five-minute walk of Elk Haus. In winter, the Almenwelt Lofer offers 46 kilometres of scenic slopes, alongside snowboarding, cross-country skiing and winter walks—a wonderful setting for a family holiday. Summer brings flower meadows, mountain trails for walking and climbing, cycling routes through the valley and beautiful lakes and rivers for swimming, kayaking and rafting. From days exploring the mountains to leisurely afternoons in the village, there’s something for every age and pace.

There’s plenty to discover beyond Lofer, too. Kitzbühel, Zell am See and Berchtesgaden are all within easy reach of Elk Haus, offering even more possibilities for memorable days out. Salzburg and its airport are around 40 minutes away, with beautiful streets, shops, cultural attractions and the world-renowned Christmas market. Whether you fancy exploring somewhere new or simply enjoying another day in the mountains, Elk Haus is a wonderful base for making the most of the region.

Gretl

Ground floor · Two bedrooms with en suites

With 64 square metres of thoughtfully arranged space, Gretl is a welcoming two-bedroom ground-floor apartment at the front of Elk Haus. The generous open-plan kitchen, living and dining area is the heart of the apartment—a place for leisurely breakfasts, shared suppers and relaxed evenings after a day on the slopes or mountain trails. Bedroom 1 has a king-size bed and bedroom 2 a super king-size bed, each with its own en suite shower room—giving everyone a little privacy as well as plenty of space to spend time together. Triple-glazed windows, additional internal insulation and reliable central heating keep it cosy, while underfloor heating in both bathrooms adds a welcome touch of warmth on winter mornings. The front entrance is reached by two steps, with a handy porch for coats and boots.

Liesl

First Floor, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms

Set at the rear of Elk Haus, Liesl is a welcoming 65-square-metre, two-bedroom first-floor apartment with its own private steps and an entrance porch for coats, boots and holiday essentials. The central living area enjoys mountain views and offers a comfortable place to unwind, with a glazed door opening onto the balcony for a little fresh mountain air. A spacious double bedroom enjoys views towards the mountains, while the second bedroom also enjoys mountain views and has bunk beds and an additional single bed—an inviting space for three, with its own en suite shower room. A second shower room opens off the living area, and a separate kitchen, reached through the porch, provides space to prepare leisurely breakfasts and meals together. With room to gather and separate spaces to retreat to, Liesl makes a relaxed base for days exploring Lofer and the surrounding mountains.
